This converter plugs into a DisplayPort output on your computer and gives you a DVI socket for your own DVI cable. The signal flows one way only, from the DisplayPort side out to the DVI monitor. The latch on the DisplayPort end locks it into the port so it will not work loose behind the machine.

FAQ
Does this work in both directions? No. It converts from DisplayPort out to the other format only. It will not take an HDMI, DVI or VGA source and feed a DisplayPort monitor. For that you need a converter built for the opposite direction.
What is the latch for? DisplayPort connectors have a small spring catch that locks into the socket so the cable cannot fall out on its own. Press the release button on the connector before pulling it, or you risk damaging the port.
Is a DVI cable included? No. The output is a DVI socket, so you supply the DVI cable between this converter and the monitor, usually the one already plugged into it.
When does this make sense over buying a new monitor? When the DVI monitor still does the job. A modern desktop or Chromebox often ships with DisplayPort outputs and no DVI, and this converter bridges that gap for far less than a replacement display costs.
