Is this an active converter?
No — it is a passive adapter within the DisplayPort family. Mini DisplayPort and DisplayPort carry the same signal in different shells, so no conversion electronics are involved and nothing is lost.

Will I get 4K at 60 Hz?
The adapter supports 8K and 4K at 60 Hz. Whether you get it depends on the weakest link in the chain — the DisplayPort version of your source, the cable you attach and the monitor. Our DisplayPort versions guide explains which combinations reach which resolutions.

Which way round does it go?
Mini DisplayPort into the computer, full-size DisplayPort socket facing out for your DP cable. It does not work in reverse — it will not turn a DisplayPort output into a Mini DisplayPort one.
