How long can the total run be?
This is a passive extension, so keep the combined length of the device cable and the extension close to a standard single USB cable. Stacking several extensions, or going much beyond a standard cable length, can cause dropouts or slow speeds. If you need a longer run, an active (signal-boosting) extension is the fix.

Is USB 3.0 backward compatible?
Yes. It works with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports and devices, running at the speed of the slower device.
