Good to know

Can I connect two computers with this?
No — and this is the important one. A plain A-to-A cable does not link two PCs, and connecting two host ports directly is not what the port is designed for. PC-to-PC transfer needs a bridged transfer cable with electronics inside. Use this only where a device specifically calls for an A-to-A connection.

How fast is USB 3.0 in practice?
The signalling rate is 5 Gbps. Real throughput is lower once protocol overhead and the speed of the drive itself are accounted for, but it is still several times what USB 2.0 can do.

Will it work in a USB 2.0 port?
Yes. USB 3.0 connectors keep the USB 2.0 contacts, so the cable falls back to 480 Mbps in an older port.
