FAQ
Can I use this to connect two computers?
No. A plain A-to-A cable is not a data link between two PCs and can be unsafe for that use. It is for devices whose upstream port is USB-A, such as some hard drive enclosures, KVMs, docks and cooling pads.
Is USB 3.0 backward compatible?
Yes. In a USB 2.0 port the cable falls back to 480 Mbps, the speed of the slower device.
How fast is USB 3.0 in practice?
The signalling rate is 5 Gbps. Real throughput is lower once protocol overhead and the speed of the drive itself are accounted for, but it is still several times what USB 2.0 can do.
