This cable takes a DisplayPort output on your computer or graphics card and feeds an HDMI input on a TV or monitor. The conversion happens inside the cable itself using active electronics, so no separate adapter or power supply is needed. It is built for people whose graphics card has DisplayPort outputs but whose display only takes HDMI, and who do not want to give up 8K or 120Hz to make that connection.

FAQ

Does this work in both directions? No. It converts from DisplayPort out to the other format only. It will not take an HDMI, DVI or VGA source and feed a DisplayPort monitor. For that you need a converter built for the opposite direction.

Why this cable instead of a basic DisplayPort to HDMI cable? This is the one for driving an 8K or 120Hz TV from a PC graphics card that only has DisplayPort outputs. Basic DisplayPort to HDMI cables top out well below that, commonly at 4K and 30Hz. The active DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 conversion here is what carries 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz through to the TV.

Do both ends need to support these speeds? Yes. Your graphics card has to be able to output the resolution and refresh rate you want, and the HDMI input on the display has to accept it. The cable does not raise the limits of either device.
