FAQ

What does the in wall rating mean? CL2 and CL3 rated jackets are approved to be run inside a wall. CL3 carries the higher voltage rating of the two. If the cable instead has to pass through an air return space above a drop ceiling or under a raised floor, code calls for a plenum rated cable, and our active optical HDMI range covers that.

Which conductor gauge do I need? A lower AWG number means thicker copper, which holds the signal over a longer run. As a rule of thumb, 28 AWG is fine for short desk and rack lengths, 26 AWG for medium runs, and 24 AWG for the longest passive copper runs. Past about 50 ft, an active optical cable is the more reliable choice.

Is 28 AWG enough at 25 ft? At 25 ft this cable is at the upper end of what 28 AWG holds at the full 18Gbps. It is a sound choice at this length, but if your run is longer, or you want more margin because the cable is going somewhere you cannot easily reach again, look at the 26 AWG and 24 AWG versions in this range.
