This is a 1000 ft pull box of Cat5e UTP cable for general indoor network wiring. It is the CM rated cable in the range, which makes it the pick for single floor runs in open air or surface raceway rather than risers or plenum spaces. Solid bare copper conductors terminate cleanly into keystone jacks and patch panels for permanent drops.
Specifications
- Category: Cat5e
- Packaging: 1000 ft pull box
- Conductor: 24 AWG solid bare copper
- Construction: 4-pair UTP unshielded
- Bandwidth: 350MHz
- Jacket rating: CM
- Certification: ETL verified
- Colors: available in several jacket colors
Good for
- Wiring a floor of offices back to one patch panel in the switch closet
- Adding desk, phone, printer and access point drops in a home or small office
- Surface raceway and open air runs that stay on a single floor with no floor to floor penetration
Which jacket rating do I need?
- CM: general indoor use, run in open air or surface raceway on a single floor
- CMR riser: vertical runs between floors, through risers and shafts. Required by code where cable passes floor to floor
- CMP plenum: runs inside air handling spaces such as above a drop ceiling or under a raised floor. The strictest fire rating and usually what a commercial inspector asks for
- CMX outdoor: exposed outdoor runs, with a UV resistant jacket
This box is CM rated, the general indoor grade. Step up to CMR riser if the run goes vertically between floors, to CMP plenum if any part of it sits in an air handling space above a drop ceiling or under a raised floor, and to CMX if the cable goes outdoors.
FAQ
Solid or stranded? Solid conductor cable is for permanent in wall runs terminated into keystone jacks or patch panels. Stranded cable flexes and is for patch cords that get moved. Using the wrong one is a common cause of intermittent links.
How is it packaged? A 1000 ft pull box that feeds the cable out as you run it, so it does not tangle or kink during a pull.
Cat5e or Cat6? This Cat5e is rated to 350MHz and is the lower cost choice for phones, cameras and standard desk drops. The Cat6 in this range uses a heavier 23 AWG conductor and is rated to 600MHz, so pick that when you want more headroom in a new install.
Why several jacket colors? Color coding lets you separate services on the same rack, for example one color for data drops and another for voice or cameras, which saves time when you troubleshoot later.
